The paper illustrates, how the manoeuvrability and the directional stability of a 7.5-t-distributor truck can be enhanced with the aid of an electronic-hydraulic rear-axle steering system. The steering strategy 'Rear end Swingout Compensation (RSC)' improves the manoeuvrability by approximately 20 percent, whereby the commonly existent and dangerous rear end swing-out is completely negated. The dynamic behaviour of the all-wheel steering commercial vehicle is decisively influenced while braking on split adhesion road surfaces with the aid of specific control algorithms. Additionally, through the implementation of a rear-axle steering system in the truck itself, it is possible to suppress oscillatory motions of a centre axle trailer even during the most extreme driving manoeuvres.
