The primary function of a steering wheel, element for Safety, is to be an interface between the driver and his vehicle during the trajectory control. Industrial design, safety, comfort and environment are secondary functions which generate style and mechanical behaviour requirements, which only CAD and Calculation can fit on an efficient and economical basis. The research of the best compromise between Style and Performance can be improved thanks to CAD image as an aid for having a dialogue with carmakers' Design Department and to CAD calculation for the determination of comfort parameters such as resonance frequency, mass and polar inertia. Finally, the method of the finished elements can optimize the frame design, which is a significant safety part for endurance as well as for chest or head shock. The better knowledge of our frame behaviour has become more and more necessary since the creation of safety systems like airbag.
