The paper deals with an electrohydraulic diaphragm-disc valve for vehicle advanced suspension systems. The research builds on some earlier work on low-cost proportional electrohydraulic valve designs incorporated into a uni-flow damper. It describes improvements to the disc vehicle suspension valve using a novel diaphragm-disc configuration with a permanent magnet integration. The advantage of this arrangement over earlier valve designs is that higher flux densities are achieved in the force motor thereby providing higher force output, more linear characteristics and the simplification of the electronic control approach. This design is suited to semi-active suspension, schemes in which the valve is integrated into the damper. The paper concentrates on the mechatronic concepts of the suspension disc valve. The theoretical modelling including the diaphragm-disc configuration with the integration of permanent magnets is dealt with. The validation of the electromagnetic characteristics of the novel suspension valve is made to compare with the theoretical estimations.
