This paper gives a brief overview of the noise path analysis (NPA) technique applied to a vehicle with several major noise paths. Both the variability of the measured interior noise and the inherent errors in the measurement techniques suggest that the phase referenced summation of the paths is an unsuitable gauge for verification of the analysis. The requirement for extended verification tests is therefore highlighted and the method used to achieve this is explained. The emphasis for these verification tests was placed on generating confidence in the magnitude of the predicted contributions for individual paths, rather than the phase information, which is of secondary importance for the development of a robust solution to interior noise problems.
