Combining an active suspension of a passenger car with an actively controlled vibration absorber an improvement of 82 % in comfort is possible without increasing the dynamic tire load (in comparison to the passive vehicle). These former theoretical results have now been verified in hardware-in-the-loop simulations. The results can be compared with those, which have been obtained by a vehicle with a prototype active suspension, but without active vibration absorbers. However, the results also show that this amount of performance must be paid by enormous power requirements and increasing system complexity.
