One of the common structure-borne noise problem of an automotive vehicle is the floor panel vibration. When the floor panel is excited by the external forces, either from the road surface or from engine power train, it tends to vibrate at one of its natural frequencies and generate undesirable noises. The hydraulic dampers, and rubber bushings plays an important role in the vibration and noise reduction. However, to select proper dampers and bushings for a vehicle to eliminate or to reduce this structure borne noise is not an easy task. This paper presents a systematic study on the sensitivities of modal parameters of the automotive vehicle floor panels, ie. resonant frequencies, damping coefficients, and mode shapes, with respect to different dampers (i.e. shock absorbers or struts) and rubber bushings installed inn automotive vehicle. The test results revealed the relationship between the filtering characteristics of the rubber bushing and the changes of its structure dyamics of a vehicle. In addition, the correlation between the frequency response function and the noise generated by the floor panel is also included.
