The side pull test device is used to simulate light vehicles in steady-state cornering maneuvers to serve as a reference for the steady-state predictions from a vehicle dynamics simulation. Comparisons are made for body roll angle and axle lateral load transfer for three test vehicles. Analysis demonstrates that body roll angle is not necessarily the same in the side pull test as a vehicle in a steady-state corner. The side pull data is shown to be useful for checking the simulation's front to rear lateral load transfer distribution. Modifications to the side pull test device design are proposed.
