The present requirements for extended life and increased efficiency of exhaust gas systems imply the availability of steel materials suitable to withstand high temperatures in stronlgy aggressive environment. ILVA/CSM is developing a variety of materials tailored for differentiated applications in the exhaust gas systems components. In particular, two different materials are developed for the catalytic converter support, i.e. an innovative intermetallic nickel-aluminide alloy and EB-PVD aluminized stainless steel foils. For pipes and components advanced families of deep drawing high ductility ELI stainless steels and high temperature resistant aluminized steels are available to provide the most appropriate technical response in function of environmental aggressiveness, thermomechanical requisites and cost effectiveness. These innovative steel materials and components are being tested with the cooperation of vehicle manufacturers.
