Lightweight electric vehicles need a special infrastructure for the recharging of the battery. In the following it will be described which charging facilities are needed. The question where the charging facilities should be placed, will be of special interest. It will be explained where the necessary facilities should be placed for the use during day-time and night-time. The needed number of charging stations and the costs of installing these installations will be displayed with Switzerland as an example. The aim of the Promotion Programme 'Lightweight Electric Vehicles' in Switzerland are 200000 electric vehicles running by the year 2010. For these figures the total number of charging stations and the costs needed for the infrastructure are estimated. Electric and lightweight electric vehicles need an infrastructure for the recharging suited to them. Its existence is an indispensable requirement for a wide use of EVs. The difficulties building up this infrastructure and its costs are commonly underestimated. Below we will bring our view up for discussion, where and in which extent this infrastructure will be needed and which costs are to be expected.
