Track tests of four articulated HGV and anti-lock systems and seven car systems have been carried out at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). Testing has been on a variety of road surfaces and at various vehicle speeds, involving straight line tests, split surface tests and braking on a curve. The main purpose was to compare the performance of a vehicle with anti-lock to that of the same vehicle without it. A description of the systems, vehicles, test methods and results, including the effects on stopping distances and vehicle stability, are presented in this paper.
