Sensing technology for autonomous navigation and information systems is discussed. Map matching technology with dead reckoning method could be the base of this system, but it requires other sensing technologies to improve the accuracy in navigation systems. Inertia navigation will assist the system to provide more accurate locus of the car on the electronic map. But it has no function to detect the absolute direction or the point of compass. On the other hand, global positioning system (GPS) or some road-side positioning signals will allow to detect the absolute position. But there are some limitation of receiving such devices at any locations in the world. Two types of new sensors were developed to establish reliable navigation systems with reasonable cost. The first one is an optical fiber gyroscope that has a resolution of rotation rate of 0.01 degree/sec. This allows drivers to recognize the locus of his/her car with highly accurate and smooth way. A GPS signal receiver/processor has been developed for calibration and interpolation of inertia navigation method. The GPS signal receiver/processor was designed to have a simple composition, but it allowed the system to generate and interpolate enough accuracy of the current location.
