Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) is a relatively high-rate, high-performance, low-cost method of producing fiber reinforced composite structures. The aerospace industry is currently turning to this process as an alternative to autoclave molding of pre-impregnated advanced composites. RTM has become more accepted and is gaining in popularity because of its rate potential, which when combined with its high-performance characteristis, is taking composites out of the high-dollar value arena and into the higher rate tactical weapons market. As RTM matures and even higher rates are demonstrated, costs will come down and other markets, such as automotive will open.
