This paper describes the analysis of parts of a hybrid supporting tower for offshore windturbines. A series of earlier studies have demonstrated the case for adoption of a tripod structure on which to mount horizontal axis wind turbines of about 3 MW generating capacity. There are obvious advantages to a determinate structure of this form which is insensitive to foundation settlement. Constraints on the analysis and some unexpected results are described.
