Statistical Process Control (SPC) has been based on sampling because of the difficulty of data collection and data analysis. However, with automated dimensional measurement systems, every part produced can be measured, resulting in 100 % measurement. The impact of 100 % measurement data on Statistical Process Control in three areas is presented using case studies from an automobile body assembly process. These areas area: (1) Process monitoring and surveillance; (2) Process parameter identification; and (3) Process variation reduction. Six cases are illustrated. They include: (1) sporadic jumps, (2) sustained mean shift, (3) mean shift detection using Prediction Error Analysis (PEA), (4) multivariate analysis, (5) modeling by exponential smoothing, and (6) variation reduction in side frame subassembly.
