A combined theoretical and experimental program was conducted on the volatility characteristics of high methanol blends containing either gasoline or light isocrackate as priming agents. Vapour pressures of primers alone, M85 and M90 blends were measured at five temperatures from -40 Cel to +40 Cel and at various vapour/liquid ratios. A mathematical model previously developed for alcohol/hydrocarbon blends was further developed. The level of agreement between measured and predicted blend vapour pressures was excellent. The relevance of the observed behaviour characteristics of the various blends to engine cold starting is discussed.
