Noise and vibration levels in military vehicles are an important design consideration in terms of crew effectiveness, comfort, communication and limits of operation. There are increasing demands from operational users and legislative bodies to reduce levels within the crew compartment. SDRC have been contracted to develop a methodology to predict crew compartment noise levels and to assess the effect of design modifications aimed at reducing noise levels within the crew compartment of armoured fighting vehicles. It was a key objective that the methodology could be applied to future fighting vehicles design development at the concept stage. The effect of several design modifications were rapidly assessed yielding potential noise reductions in the order of 15-20 dB.
