Ozone and greenhouse effects could be problems of the future which require even stricter reductions in emissions and consumption of fossil fuel. Direct injection gasoline engines and diesel engines with new particulate filters using an automatic start-stop system could be solutions for the next decade. Alternative energies for methanol flexible-fuel engines and electric hybrids may offer better solutions.
