The concerns for automotive interiors have been directed towards increased luxury, improved fit and finish, and safety, necessitating decorative upholstery trims. Since the adhesion of upholstery on a substrate increases costs by incrased labor content and decreased productivity, a new integration system, 'mold stamping', has been developed by using plastics to get advantages of design freedom, weight decrease and cost reduction. This paper identifies what technologies have been developed to establish the new system capable of meeting the requirements of resin compositions, upholstery materials and molding technologies for the integration.
