The application of electronic controls to vehicle suspension and steering systems is creating new requirements for linear and rotary position sensors with high performance and durability. By using the basic phenomena of high frequency eddy currents to vary the impedance of sensor coils, together with a powerful elecronic interface technique, a wide variety of non-contacting sensors may be designed. The performance of both linear and rotary sensors is illustrated.
