Lockbolts offer uniform high clamp load, vibration resistance, and high rates of production. Removal, fit-up, and installation difficulties have limited the use of lockbolts in truck frame assembly. In response, the lockbolt and its installation method have been reengineered for compatibility with the truck frame assembly environment. A squeeze-type of 'stump' lockbolt, without the conventional pintail, is now available for Grade 8 frame bolting applications. An advanced collar design and lock groove form add the versatility of fit-up and removability to the durability advantages lockbolts offer. Installation methods, mechanical properties, and applications are discussed.
