The Marquardt Company has developed an advanced bipropellant latching valve for isolating the satellite propulsion system liquid propelllants (N2O4 and MMH). The oxidizer and fuel isolation valves are mechanically linked and operate together using a common actuator in an integral housing. All of the propellant wetted parts are made of titanium, except for the Teflon poppet seals. Titanium bellows isolate the propellants from the valve actuator which features a unique magnetic latching design. No power is required to hold the valves in either the open or closed position. The position of the valves is monitored by means of a microswitch located in the actuator cavity. The actuator also includes an integral electrical connector and arc supressing diodes. The selection of titanium matrrials allowed a low weight bipropellant valve configuration (0.68 lb) and also eliminates potential ferric nitrate formation in the nitrogen tetroxide oxidizer cavity.
