This paper proposes a new method of dynamic and optimal driving/braking force distribution on four in-wheel motors of an electric vehicle (EV), whose lateral motion is controlled by yaw moment generation. The method proposed in this paper can generate the required yaw moment, keeping the force load of each tire minimal. It is realized by distributing a larger driving force on the tire with a smaller side force. This averages the root mean squares of driving forces and side forces of the four tires. The algorithm is very simple and requires few calculations, making it suitable for real-time vehicle motion control.
