We describe a 3D vision system TILT, designed and constructed at ONERA in France. The system was developed for mobile robotics applications and successfully tested on an outdoor vehicle. The system consists of two main units: the optical head (range finder, scanner, analog processing), and the electronic rack (digital processing and video processing). Original aspects of TILT concern its fast frame rate (25 Hz) and its angular resolution (up to 256*256 points in a 20 degrees *20 degrees field of view). The main parts of the system are described and some results discussed. Some images are analyzed, giving typical examples of possible performances.
