From the outset, aviation has used means of communicating with the ground. These means are now made available to the passengers. Two radio communication techniques are currently being developed: one cellular, the other satellite based. The 'TFTS' system is cellular. It is designed for telephone communications between the aircraft and the ground. This system easily adapts to the traffic density. The AMSS system is a satellite based communication system enabling aircraft in flight anywhere in the world to establish communications with the ground.
