The automotive electronics intelligent power market is both large and varied, with currents from as low as 100 mA to higher than 30 A. Throughout this range there is a requirement for high and low-side drivers and bridge configurations. To meet the needs of these applications several integrated circuit technologies are employed. These include standard bipolar, power BIDFET, planar power and multidie. The comparative features of these technologies are discussed, showing each is suited to particular segments, and how together they fulfill the needs of the automotive market.
