For many years, military aircraft have had to be able to operate in a hostile high intensity RF (HIRF) electromagnetic environment. With the increasing use of electronics in flight safety critical systems and the increasing level of the RF environment, the procedures to demonstrate their EM hardness have had to become more thorough and most cost effective. The authors describe the various EMC aircraft test techniques used to ensure the safety of aircraft and personnel for high-integrity flight safety critical systems. These techniques are now being used by both military and commercial aircraft companies to comply with the latest safety standards.
