A US Air Force NiCd cell qualification program established for generic qualification of presently manufactured aerospace-type NiCd cells is described. This test program continues some of the life cycle tests on previous Gates cell designs started in another program. The main thrust of the program is to qualify present and advanced NiCd cell designs from three cell manufacturers. The first cells received for this program have completed acceptance and characterization tests. Results from the tests are presented. They are being used to evaluate the generic qualification of the SAFT/France standard VOS-A cell for US Air Force programs.
