The objectives of the two-phase M/FSIS project, spanning fiscal years 1988-91 are to develop functional capability requirements for electronic systems (avionics) needed in mission applications and air vehicles to operate effectively in the year-2010 timeframe; and develop conceptual electronic systems (avionics) functional integration design concepts and associated technology development objectives (road-maps) for satisfying air-vehicle integrated-system requirements. The scope of the 18-month Phase I effort is to develop electronic systems functional capability requirements for a set of seven air vehicles and associated missions, namely fighter, interdictor, stand-off strategic weapons carrier, attacker, airlifter, transatmospheric, and special-operations-forces vertical airlifter. Phase I will also identify the system and enabling technologies to satisfy these requirements.
