In the South-East London and Kent (SELKENT) bus district, a scheme has been introduced to give buses priority at traffic signals. Buses carry transponders and, when the are recognised because of them, the signals respond. The paper outlines various possible forms of bus recognition and of signal control options, and reasons for selecting them, and describes the SELKENT scheme.
