Discusses the Surface Wire Ground (SWG) system. The SWG system showed marked improvements in many areas besides human factors, over conventional systems, including significant reduction of actual ground resistance. The SWG design consisted of 26 six-inch long metal stakes used to secure a 100 foot long, one-eight inch diameter steel wire to the Earth in a straight line. The results of additional tests led to a final SWG system design where the wire length was reduced to 70 feet. Three short wires with quick-connect fastners at each end were added to connect the SWG to three additional points on the equipment being grounded.
