Summary form only given. The authors examine the application of present day inspection and NDT techniques used for the subsea inspection of fixed steel structures, discussing their reliability, sensitivity and limitations. In particular, the difficulties of inspecting a large number of welded joints on a marine growth fouled structure are highlighted and the economic benefits of applying flooded member detection techniques are demonstrated by a comparison with conventional techniques and procedures.
