The author describes Joint STARS, the joint surveillance target attack radar system of the US Army and Air force. By detecting mobile and stationary ground targets, from small units to maneuver division, both at the forward edge of the battle and deep within enemy territory, Joint STARS provides battlefield management and the ability to attack in all-weather conditions with aircraft, missiles, artillery and maneuver forces.
