The authors discuss microcomputer modelling of military communication systems. Programs for simulations of radar systems, and satellite, tropospheric scatter and line of sight very high frequency/ultrahigh frequency (VHF/UHF) communication systems could be developed quickly and inexpensively using a modular approach and proven software design practices. Different nuclear environments incorporating lower altitude detonations, surface bursts and multiple independently targeted reentry vehicle (MIRV) laydowns are some of the features that can be implemented to satisfy analyst/planner needs. Any enemy electronic support measures (ESM) capabilities can be assessed. Interception vulnerabilities, direction finding and jamming, including advanced technology techniques, can be incorporated into microcomputer systems assessment models. Additionally, these radio electronic combat vulnerabilities in nuclear disturbed environments can be evaluated.
