Expanding Coast Guard responsibilities and wider cooperation among government agencies will require increased capabilities to manage classified/sensitive information on a real time basis and to exchange this information between both internal and external data bases. The primary thrusts will be to achieve increased levels of interoperability, security and survivability while integrating C3 resources throughout the Coast Guard. More protection and security for sensitive and classified information will be needed. The recently published NSDD-145, while emphasizing the need for historical programs to protect classified and sensitive information, also emphasizes the need to deny access to selected types of unclassified information. Monitoring activities by drug traffickers and others highlight the need to protect Coast Guard telecommunications and ADP systems.
