The aim of the measurements was to determine the real electrical parameters of trolleybuses traction drive and calculation of electrical losses and energy consumption. The losses in rheostat at electrical braking are not very big because pneumatical braking works at lower speeds. The energy consumption will decrease about 7,5 % if the DC grid could swallow about 30 % of the braking energy. The pay-off time of the modernisation of buck-converter will be approximately 18 years. To return whole braking energy the accumulators or inverters in substations must be used. Then the energy consumption will decrease 26 %. The analyse showed that the modernisation of the buck-converter is not useful because the pay-off time is too long.
