An active steering has been introduced, where the essential authority over steering remains with the driver. A small additional steering angle is actuated, which results from integral feedback of the yaw rate, measured by a yaw rate sensor. The aim of this additional steering is the quick and robust compensation of yaw disturbances such that the driver's task reduces to keeping a single point mass on the desired track by lateral acceleration. In situations and experiments with side wind impact and asymmetric road adhesion while braking, essential comfort and safety advantages are verified for this robust decoupling control.
