Solar-electric racing vehicles are highly efficient and capable of reaching high speeds with little available energy. The photovoltaic power conversion depends mostly on the appropriate load impedance matching and the cells operating temperature. Excellent point trackers search for the optimum power point but are restricted to the power available from the cells. This availability is affected by the temperature they can reach as a result of the percentage of solar radiation that is converted to heat. This research pretends to model the thermal response of PV cells at different vehicle speeds and the influence on their performance. Understanding their behavior, one might recommend material parameters to obtain optimum performance of solar cells.
