Examination of only the effects of combustion by the engine, fuel consumption and exhaust gases, is not enough to accurately evaluate engine performance. One important requirement is the accurate and qualitative measurement of phenomena (such as air flow and atomized fuel flow) that lead up to combustion. Mutual effects between the fuel and air decide the condition of the mixture in the cylinder and the quality of the combustion. Hitachi has been actively engaged in the improvement of and specification of automotive engine control equipment, utilizing combustion measuring technology from the field of thermal power generation (including gas turbines) gas-liquid laminar two flow technology from the field of atomic power generation, as well as combustion evaluation technology that Hitachi has cultivated over many years.
