In this paper some developments of optical techniques for space communications and space based SAR are discussed. More specifically, the development of an optical-based frequency synthesizer is presented. In addition, the advantages of optical fiber technology for phased array systems with regard to signal distribution, beamforming/steering and multifrequency operations are described. An optical neural net processor for pattern recognition application is also presented.
