The demand for power system computer models has increased in recent years because of the growth in powersystems, tightening of design constraints, and access to SPICE, through user-friendly computers, to computer-illiterate designers. As with all simuations, results are only as good as the models. Nonlinear state-space averaged models accelerate time domain simulations, and because SPICE automatically linearizes them, require no modification for frequency domain analysis. However, they occasionally require validation; subharmonic oscillations, for example, escape the classical state-space averaged models. Ideally, breadbroading and testing of the system is used to confirm computer predictions, but size and schedule do not always permit it. This paper describes an experiment in 'brute-force' simulation of a spacecraft power system, in which direct models instead of state-space averaged models are used.
