A recently proposed 'open' Rankine-Cycle automotive propulsion system employing a cryogenic liquid working-fluid which is discharge during operation has been evaluated. A thermodynamic cycle analysis was performed in order to predict the system's energy efficiency and work output per-unit-mass of working fluid discharged. The subject analysis results in calculated values for these quantities that support results reported by the proponents of the system. The sensitivity of fuel consumption and mass of working-fluid stored to variation in propulsion system design parameters is explored by means of a sensitivity analysis of the thermodynamic cycle. It is concluded that further investigation of the proposed system is justified.
