The Space Station Electrical Power System is the first space-based electric utility system. The system draws upon a wide spectrum of electrical engineering technologies including power systems, power electronics, analog and digital electronics, and control systems. These disciplines will be applied to the design of Space Station EPS hardware and to the development of advanced control methods. The final integration will be a completely automatic and autonomous space power system for use on the Space Station. The Rocketdyne space power laboratory has proven to be an effective tool for advanced technology R and D to demonstrate the feasibility of both hardware and software concepts.
