This paper makes use of automotive position sensing applications both present and future to draw out in particular features of the thick film conductive polymer contacting potentiometric device. This is because such devices lend themselves well to automotive demands for high volume, high reliability, high quality, extreme enviroments and low cost. Development of polymer ink has brought about the necessarily raised levels of performance for the potentiometric technique of position sensing. New materials and old principles and techniques have been brought together to open new possibilities in terms of costs and performance in the position transducer field. The process of improvement continues.
