Momentary power interruptions to electrical loads can occur whenever loads are transferred from one power source to another (ground to aircraft generator, auxiliary power unit to aircraft generator, etc.). These interruptions vary from 50 milliseconds maximum (MIL-STD-704) to 200 milliseconds maximum (RTCA-DO-160) in duration. While these power interruptions typically do not have an adverse effect on the operation of usage equipment such as motors for fans, compressors, etc., they do affect some usage equipment such as digital computers, avionics, and communications systems. For equipment such as this, it may be desirable or even necessary to have no-break power.
