The control of throttling for diesel engine is basically used to improve the NVH performance and protect a sharp exotherm and high temperature to damage the diesel paniculate filter in idle conditions. While throttling a substantial depression is generated at the intake side, hence, there is the increased amplitude of flow noise with increasing flow rate as a consequence. In this study, a simplified approach to implement the control of throttling for improving the idle sound quality in mass production is presented and is carried out in order to investigate the suppression mechanism of side effect noise as like tonal sound resulting from the acoustic resonance at the coupling area between intake manifold and EGR intake pipe as closed side-branch.
