The effects of unsteady aerodynamics on flat ride were quantified by aerodynamic coefficients obtained from towing tank test. Unsteady aerodynamic force occurrence mechanism was also ascertained by unsteady CFD using dynamic mesh for a variety of pitching motion frequencies and initial ride heights. This has made it possible to consider unsteady aerodynamic effects on flat ride from the first stage of vehicle performance design. A water tank test and unsteady CFD revealed that unsteady CL is caused by illusions of curvature in the underfloor shape, and made it possible to quantify this phenomenon using vehicle volume and baseline physical quantity of vehicle motion.
