This study used recumbent exercise bicycles as the target of investigation and adopted the subjective comfort level assessment results for users after riding to determine the optimal seat position for recumbent exercise bicycles. A total of 16 healthy female participants with heights between 155 and 165 cm were recruited. Participants were required to ride the exercise bicycle at six different seat positions for 1 minute at 65 revolutions per minute (rpm). A 7-point Likert scale was used to conduct the overall comfort-level assessment. The results were as follows: 1) A significant variation in the overall comfort level of the subjects occurred for different seat positions; 2) for women with heights between 155 and 165 cm, the optimal seat position was when the seat center was 629 mm (horizontal distance) from the crankshaft center and 467 mm from the ground surface; and 3) by using regression analysis, the optimal seat position for various heights when riding was derived as follows: seat center position from the crankshaft center (horizontal distance; mm) is equal to 357.729 + 0.687 body height (cm), and seat center position from the ground surface (vertical distance; mm) is equal to 153.018 + 3.005 body height (cm).
