This paper presents the recent results of research in the field of experimental draping studies on complex geometries. These studies are mainly conducted at the Institute of Aircraft Design. The wbk (Institute of Production Science) has the very challenging task to transcribe the results of the studies to the automated process, which is not state of the art at all. The two institutes work hand in hand in order to provide each other with important input because it is well understood that a lot of research work has already been conducted in this field but a satisfying level of common knowledge for the industry is not reached yet. This work should provide a first impulse for a discussion how this can be achieved in the near future.
