Increasing energy costs (especially in the case of fossil energy sources), global traffic volumes and climatic changes imply a need for new innovative energy efficient and emission free mobility technologies. These broad requirements are unlikely be fulfilled with a single innovation. As a result, interdisciplinary approaches on efficient mobility including innovative drive technologies and lightweight design are needed. Electromechanical lightweight design components are integrated in safety relevant systems/structures. This requires new approaches and methods to evaluate and guarantee the durability, reliability and functional safety of these systems under mechanical, thermal, electrical and electrochemical loads.
