Most battery electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles control part or all of their regenerative deceleration through the brake pedal apply with the help of the electric motor, whereby higher deceleration is realized with the additionally use of the friction brake. This so called brake blending is nowadays realized by complex brake systems in order to give no feedback whatsoever about this operation. The occurrence of the brake blending is usually dependent on the state of charge, temperature of the battery and some driving parameters. The experience of efficient driving is mainly influenced by the feedback of the vehicle to the driver. Very simple, this could be done by visual feedback via the dashboard. However, far more elegant would be a haptic feedback for the drivers efficient driving, especially for vehicles with alternative power trains. The main challenge is the compromise between a new driving experience with active energy regeneration and an unusual HMI compared to conventional vehicles. In order to keep the driver in the loop whether the vehicle is decelerating using energy regeneration or energy dissipation via the brake discs, he/she could be haptically informed about the maximum regeneration of the vehicle. This contribution shows a possibility to generate a haptical feedback in the brake pedal force via a limited increase of pedal force and its impacts on the driver in different driving tasks.
